What is Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning?
DDMRP is an innovative multi-echelon pull methodology to plan
inventories and materials. It enables a company to build more closely to actual market requirements
and promotes better and quicker decisions and actions at the planning and execution level.
Demand Driven MRP
A Formal Planning Revolution for the 21st Century
Seminar, Friday 11th November 2011, 10:00am —12:30pm
|
I & J Munn Ltd, in association with Nottingham University Business School and Rolls-Royce Plc have
invited Chad Smith, the co-author of the new edition of Orlicky's Material Requirements Planning
(McGraw-Hill, 2011) to the UK to give a 2.5 hour seminar detailing a revolutionary formal planning
approach that is producing staggering results in early adopters.
The seminar will describe and clarify the poor business results embedded in most of today’s demand and
supply planning systems; discuss the core problems causing the results; present and detail an alternative
demand driven structure for planning and controlling materials flow; and present initial results from
actual implementations.
This new solution helps companies tackle three pervasive 21st Century problems:
unacceptable inventory performance, unacceptable service level performance and high related expenses and
waste.

The session will be divided into two sections:
|
Section 1 - MRP in the Modern World, answering four critical questions:
- Is MRP still relevant in the 21st Century?
- Is MRP failing because it is flawed or poorly implemented?
- Why do pull oriented philosophies like Lean come into conflict with MRP?
- Why has MRP failed to significantly evolve over the last 30 years?
| |
Section 2 - Demand Driven MRP details the blueprint for the evolution of MRP
in the modern world. The five critical components of DDMRP will be detailed:
- Inventory Positioning
- Buffer Profiles and Level Determination
- Dynamic Buffers
- Demand Driven Planning
- Highly Visible and Collaborative Execution
